Music Lineup

The weekend’s music lineup is as diverse and eclectic as our city. Rock and roll duo Black Pistol Fire will bring the heat Saturday night with support from Chicago’s own Local H and Touched By Ghoul, while Sunday’s docket features the big-band musings of Antibalas, plus sets from Ted Leo and the PharmacistsFoxing and Now, Now. Not to mention Jump Up Records founder Chuck Wren and Numero Group co-founder Rob Sevier are poised to open each afternoon with DJ sets, filling out an already amazing schedule

SATURDAY, AUGUST 17

  • Chuck Wren: Rumors have circulated for years about just how vast Chuck’s record collection is, no-doubt including deep reggae cuts, rare ska 7-inches and other wax selections from the ether. The Jump Up Records founder is sure to bring a wild bag of tricks to the stage on Saturday, so be sure to arrive early and help set the mood with us.
  • The Bleacher Bum Band: If you are a Cubs fan, you should know these guys.
  • Montrose Man: Another local favorite you won’t want to miss.
  • Touched By Ghoul: Underground psych enthusiasts Touched By Ghoul have, by their own admission, “clawed their way to the surface… to induce the vomit of your soul.” After opening for Foo Fighters at Wrigley Field last summer, you’ll be safe to bet on an amazing set from these cats, lest your soul should want for more.
  • Local H: Chicago’s own grunge rock darlings have been making infectious guitar-drenched tunes for well over three decades, producing albums like ‘Pack Up The Cats,’ ‘As Good As Dead’ and ‘Hey, Killer’ to name a few. Just this January they played the halftime show of the Bears vs. Eagles wildcard game, in case you were worried about just how Chicago these fellas are.
  • Black Pistol Fire: Canadian by birth and Austin-based by the grace of god, Black Pistol Fire know how to get the party going. Their signature brand of bluesy rock and roll has taken the world by storm and their new single “Pick Your Poison” very well be the soundtrack to your Summer.

SUNDAY, AUGUST 18

  • Rob Sevier: Rob’s Chicago roots can be traced back over 20 years to when he founded Numero Group in 2003 with Ken Shipley. Focusing on the archival process of taking forgotten recordings, films and photographs out of obscurity it’s clear that Rob has an eye for the eclectic, a penchant for the peculiar and an ear for the exciting. Be here early Sunday and find out what he pulls from his archives.
  • Quarter Mile Thunder: Part of Chicago’s own Big Star Recording Co., storied Midwestern songsmith Ben Clarke’s latest LP as Quarter Mile Thunder, Bucking The Tiger, delves deeper into the softly electrified pastoral Americana he’s been pursuing for over half a decade, inspired by everything from delta blues and Talk Talk to Townes Van Zandt and Spiritualized.
  • Now, Now: Between the hauntingly beautiful vocals from front woman Cacie Dalager and the enigmatic backdrop hung by percussionist Bradley Hale, it’s hard to pinpoint just what it is about Now, Now that makes everything sound… perfect. 2018’s ’Saved’ marks the culmination of six years of work for the group, while 2019’s “Enda” shows what’s in store for us in the future.
  • Foxing: Just when everyone thought they had Foxing figured out, they went and released ’Nearer My God’ and completely threw us off the trail. Big guitars, boomy drums and electronic ear candy combine into a perfect elixir of music we can’t wait to share with you all.
  • Ted Leo and the Pharmacists: From founding Citizens Arrest in 1989 to collaborating with Amiee Mann in 2013, Ted Leo has seen it all. His most recent release entitled ’The Hanged Man’ received high marks from the likes of Pitchfork, The A.V. Club and more, proving his staying power in an ever-evolving scene of subgenera and nuance.
  • Antibalas: Antibalas, or “bulletproof” in Spanish, is an ever evolving group of musicians who have collaborated with everyone from The Dap-Kings, Mark Ronson, Bruno Mars and more. Their unique blend of Afrobeat, Funk and Jazz has landed them releases on acclaimed labels like Ninja Tune, ANTI- and Daptone Records and we couldn’t be more excited to have them close out the weekend Sunday night.
