Where to Celebrate Cinco De Mayo

Get the tequila ready! The countdown to Cinco De Mayo is on. We have not been able to properly celebrate the holiday the past two years, so we know this fiesta is going to be huge. Here are all the places in the area where you can go on Thursday, May 5th to celebrate all day long.

Family owned and operated since 2004, the Ramirez family personally oversees all activities in the restaurant, from serving to cooking! Their also open for breakfast, so you can begin the festivities bright and early.

Buena Vista has a great cocktail list, but they offer a BYOB option!

Big Star

Located in Hotel Zachary, Big Star is a huge hub for tacos and Mexican street fare. They offer margaritas the way they should be served, by the pitcher! This two-story taco haven is a great place to celebrate Cinco De Mayo.

Pro tip: You can never go wrong with the queso fundido.

Chilam Balam

The name Chilam Balam loosely translates to “Book of the Jaguar Priest” in the Mayan language. Chilam Balam is a sustainably-minded BYOB restaurant serving Mexican shared plates with a farm fresh twist. They strive to provide the tastiest and freshest ingredients while preparing all dishes and other aliments without unnatural additives and ingredients (corn syrup, msg, etc). All of the dishes are designed to share at the table; you can either take a little piece, make a taco out of our fresh tortillas, or top one of the handmade tostadas.

Most of the dishes on the menu also happen to be gluten free!

El Mariachi Tequila Bar has a strict policy of only serving top-quality, authentic dishes and margaritas. It has been family owned and operated for over 25 years. Established in 1996, a father and his 2 sons opened a small 10-table restaurant in the Boystown/East Lakeview community. Same owners as El Mariachi Tequila Bar!

The restaurant steadily grew in popularity with the support of loyal patrons who loved the families recipes of authentic food. The authentic Mexican experience is enhanced with imported handcrafted decor and artwork, intimate lighting and traditional festive music.

El Nuevo Mexicano

2914 N. Clark St

El Nuevo Mexicano was founded by Teresa and Elfego Rodriquez in 1983. By using only fresh ingredients, they were able to create an authentic traditional Mexican menu. In 2004, their niece, Maria, took over the restaurant and infused her style of cooking while keeping the traditional dishes the same. The menu at El Nuevo Mexicano is constantly evolving and will continue to offer dishes that are traditional along with new healthier options.

In Honor of Cinco De Mayo, they are opening earlier than usual, at noon! Their also featuring Herradura and Mezcal Maragarita specials as well as Jimador shots.

Start your Cinco De Mayo at Esencia! Opening daily at 8 am, help yourself to one of their fantastic breakfast items until 3 pm, or go the lunch route.

They also have a great sweet list, like churros, lemon ricotta pancakes, and a daily selection of rotating pastries. For those coffee drinkers, Esencia is the place to be. Featuring coffee drinks like mochas and cold brew, you can stop by for a pick me up anytime before close.

Mixteco is a healthy fast casual Mexican restaurant, with two locations!

They have all the Cinco De Mayo necessities, from fajitas and enchiladas, to Chimichangas. If you feel like going big, their Taco Party Tray comes with 10 tacos of your choice for just $29.99 (we don’t judge your taco intake). Finish your meal strong with their homemade Dulce De Leche.

Open from 10 am till midnight, so there’s plenty of time to get your fix in.
